Anyone know the Wood Horse Racing Game?

card dice game horse race

Description

During the races you'll be awarded power-ups to make your horse go faster. Watch the jockeys battle to the finish line during the many live races held weekly. You use a deck of cards minus the Kings. You use two dice to move the horses. Anyone holding this number in their hand discards that card and pays the pot ($1.00) for each card. If the person happens to roll either of the previous numbers (say the 7 from the example) they will pay the amount for the number and roll again. Continue rolling the dice, moving horses forward or paying the pot until one horse reaches the end. The first horse to reach the finish line (last space) is the winner. I just recently discovered this game via some friends over the past weekend and fell in love with it. So, the next day I made my own template and built my board. I played it many years ago and roughed it out on a piece of note paper and placed in my personal file. When I pulled it out to make the board I couldn't understand my scratching. Using two regular deck of cards, remove all Aces, Kings and Jokers leaving 88 cards (2 through Queen). For small groups you will need to only play with 1 deck which will leave you with 44 cards. Deal all cards to the players face up until all cards are gone. These cards are the horses. Some people may end up with more horses (cards) than others. If a Scratched Horse number is rolled the player pays the Jackpot the required amount (5,10,15,25) assigned to each Scratched Horse and passes the dice to the next player. You need to remove the Kings as well as the Jokers for this game to work. The dealer will deal a card to each player until the entire deck has been dealt. If this was the first scratch you would discard your two eights and pay $0.10 into the pot and move the horse to the first scratch mark indicated on the board. Each player will take a turn rolling the dice. If the outcome of the dice is the same number as a horse that was scratched in the previous round, that player has to pay the pot the amount of the scratch as indicated on the board. Each player holding one of the cards wins 1/4 of the prize. For example the #2 horse only has three spots, while the #7 horse needs to hit 8 times before it wins. This is because it is significantly more difficult to roll a two than it is a seven. Set up horses in numerical order. Dealer deals all cards to the players until all 44 cards are dealt. The remaining playing pieces are placed in the starting positions on the respective tracks and are advanced along the respected tracks in accordance with the roll of the dice. A plurality of sets of playing cards are dealt out randomly to the players. Such board games frequently simulate sporting events and the like, to allow the players to experience the fun and excitement associated with the actual event. Typically, such board games include a game board having racing tracks or lanes, playing pieces simulating the race horses and means for determining the movement of the playing pieces along the racing tracks, such as dice, playing cards or a spinning wheel. Such games often involve elaborate methods for betting on horses and jockeys which may be beyond the capability of the average child to comprehend and enjoy. The dice are rolled by the players to determine the movement of the playing pieces along the respective racing tracks. After the "winner" of the race has been determined, the central "pot" is distributed among the players in accordance with the total number of playing cards in the possession of each player, if any, corresponding to the winning playing piece. FIG. 1, a game board 14 is comprised of eleven parallel racing tracks numbered 2 through 12. Each racing track is comprised of a predetermined number of "racing" positions 16, which are represented by individual blocks. The row of blocks 18 in the central portion of board 14 which are marked with the number 2 through 12 are "starting" positions for the respective playing pieces. The row of starting positions 18 simulates a starting gate at a typical horse race track. Racing tracks 2 and 12 have three racing positions 16 between the corresponding positions and the finish line, which represents the smallest number of racing positions 16 among the racing tracks. The game board is a wood veneer playing surface built for longevity. Metal eyelets are inserted into each hole to protect the game for decades of entertainment. Breathe easy, the game is finished with an environmentally friendly water- based clear acrylic.
