We realize that the final tally might not add up to a known total, for example if someone busts. PokerStars Pro and team manager of the Global Poker League’s Hong Kong Stars, Celina Lin, was a guest on the popular BBC podcast The Conversation where she revealed that she uses her sex appeal to gain an advantage at the poker table. I was five or six years old, my dad and I would play chess. In order to make it a fair game, he would play me without some of his key pieces. The winner would keep their profit, along with a $100,000 side bet. In the end, Polk won roughly $840,000 from his opponent. Initially, most people in the high-stakes community believed he would win, but when the challenge went down, I just stomped him. That gave a lot of validity to the claims I was making about how good I was as a player. Personally, I felt the pride of coming full circle and realizing that I started out at the lowest stakes online and had just beat one of the best at the highest stakes online in a game I had come to master. It was just a very rewarding journey.I’ve always been an online grinder. In fact, this is going to be the first year that I post a win in live tournaments. Sometimes certain games are missed and obviously the site doesn’t know if someone sold action or cross-booked with someone. Of course my hourly rate in that game would be higher than anything else I can find online, but there are a bunch of issues to consider. First, there’s a liquidity problem. Simply coming up with that much cash for the game in the first place would be tough. When you compare that to being able to play three or four tables of smaller stakes games, having all of your own action, and getting way more hands in per hour, online poker is just always going to crush live poker. I would either find a way to mess with them or just avoid the subject altogether. After all, it's an exceedingly rare vocational path and most people still consider the game to be straight up gambling (or luck) anyways. So I know that they don't mean any harm with their ridiculous line of questioning. It's just a genuine intrigue with something that is incredibly foreign to them.I am not going to say anything about live poker either. Obviously the incredibly slow pace of the game and the fact that you can only play one table really sucks for an online player like me. However, this is mitigated by the fact that the worst players on earth love to play live poker in casinos. This is the workload of a full-time grinder playing 5 hours a day, 24 days a month (5 x 24 = 120 hours).I will also factor in some rakeback. These will be rough estimates based off of my experience with the Pokerstars rakeback program. However, it leaves a fair bit to be desired for people who plug away at the very lowest limits.
