Note that this is a tally of the results of all hands shown. Of course, GSN only shows a fraction of all the hands played. We realize that the final tally might not add up to a known total, for example if someone busts. PokerStars Pro and team manager of the Global Poker League’s Hong Kong Stars, Celina Lin, was a guest on the popular BBC podcast The Conversation where she revealed that she uses her sex appeal to gain an advantage at the poker table. I was five or six years old, my dad and I would play chess. In order to make it a fair game, he would play me without some of his key pieces. As I got better at it, he would add pieces back into the game. By the time I was seven or eight, he couldn’t beat me anymore. Polk was taking a class that had a mandatory attendance policy, but due to a late transfer, he wasn’t aware of a daily sign-in sheet. After explaining the circumstances to his teacher, she informed him he would be failing the class anyway. Polk had enough, dropped out of college, and moved to Las Vegas.I was moving into my dorm with my two computer monitors. One of my roommates noticed and asked me if I was a poker player. It turns out he was a $0.10-$0.25 grinder on PokerStars, so, in my mind, I just thought that the year was going to be awesome. Over the course of that semester, I had some real swings. I got drunk at a party one night, went back to my room, and lost about half my bankroll at the Ultimate Bet blackjack tables, which, in hindsight, is a relatively cheap life lesson. They are always impressed by the part where I tell my teacher to go f—k herself, but less impressed when they find out that when I moved to Las Vegas, I moved in with my grandma. I was only around 19 at the time, so I wasn’t moving to Las Vegas for live poker. The two agreed to play 15,000 hands of $100-$200 no-limit hold’em. The winner would keep their profit, along with a $100,000 side bet. In the end, Polk won roughly $840,000 from his opponent. Initially, most people in the high-stakes community believed he would win, but when the challenge went down, I just stomped him. That gave a lot of validity to the claims I was making about how good I was as a player. Personally, I felt the pride of coming full circle and realizing that I started out at the lowest stakes online and had just beat one of the best at the highest stakes online in a game I had come to master. It was just a very rewarding journey.I’ve always been an online grinder. In fact, this is going to be the first year that I post a win in live tournaments. Sometimes certain games are missed and obviously the site doesn’t know if someone sold action or cross-booked with someone. Of course my hourly rate in that game would be higher than anything else I can find online, but there are a bunch of issues to consider. First, there’s a liquidity problem. Simply coming up with that much cash for the game in the first place would be tough. When you compare that to being able to play three or four tables of smaller stakes games, having all of your own action, and getting way more hands in per hour, online poker is just always going to crush live poker. And he won it almost exclusivelyplaying at Full Tilt Poker. Ivey doesn’t just draw his salary from the virtual world however. Swede Viktor ‘Isildur1’ Blom back in 2009. Antonius is another former member of FTP whose taken a decent chunk of change in salary payments each month. The resident of Maryland is so good,  he was the only player in the world exempt from entering the Tom ‘Durrr’ Dwan challenges during the online phenom’s heyday. You will also be able to attain a better understanding as to what leaks or weaknesses you have in your poker game and develop sound techniques and strategies that will help you to plug those leaks. Heading the list is American film producer Jamie Gold with over $12 million to his credit. Following him are Denmark’s Peter Eastgate and Canada’s Jonathan Duhamel, each with just above $9 million in WSOP earnings. They don’t take into account earnings at ring games or online. World Poker Tour victory at the Bellagio worth $2.2 million, Australian Joe Hachem has parlayed his $8.1 million in WSOP earnings into a net worth of $16 million for the #12 spot among poker’s Top 20 wealthiest players. By virtue of outlasting his contemporaries and playing well into his golden years, Hall-of-Famer Doyle Brunson holds spot #3 with a net worth estimated at $75 million—and he earned every nickel of it from poker. Deadlocked in a tie above Texas Dolly are Ishan “Sammy” Farha and the “Tiger Woods of Poker,” Phil Ivey. They are reportedly worth $100 million each, much of it earned in high stakes cash games. I would either find a way to mess with them or just avoid the subject altogether. After all, it's an exceedingly rare vocational path and most people still consider the game to be straight up gambling (or luck) anyways. So I know that they don't mean any harm with their ridiculous line of questioning. It's just a genuine intrigue with something that is incredibly foreign to them.I am not going to say anything about live poker either. Obviously the incredibly slow pace of the game and the fact that you can only play one table really sucks for an online player like me. However, this is mitigated by the fact that the worst players on earth love to play live poker in casinos. This is the workload of a full-time grinder playing 5 hours a day, 24 days a month (5 x 24 = 120 hours).I will also factor in some rakeback. These will be rough estimates based off of my experience with the Pokerstars rakeback program. However, it leaves a fair bit to be desired for people who plug away at the very lowest limits. He hedged his bets, by investing in other poker players. Two years ago, he says, he invested about $2 million in 10 players at the World Series of Poker, and at times he has played against some of those he has backed in tournaments. That economy is based on players not only betting with their own money but also getting "staked," or financially backed by former and current players.
