I do however agree they are not that cheap, add complexity (drivers, overhead, etc), and some of these adapters I am seeing will only work with low profile cards. I know some of these adapters will not work with all cases. So even if an adapter was somehow produced, I am not sure how they would fit an adapter and the card properly. What i don't understand is why do computer motherboard manufactures even put PCI-e x1 card slots in their systems. At the moment, the only technology that uses PCI-e slots is either graphics cards, raid controllers, or USB2.0. As far as graphics cards go, the PCI-e x16 slot is a necessary advancement. PCIe is also better since a 1x slot gives either 125 (1.0) or 250MB/sec (2.0) of dedicated bandwidth in each direction, vs PCIs 133MB that's shared both directions with all other PCI devices. I found the exact PC i wanted at dell with a very reasonable price, the only problem is that it only comes with 1 PCI slot and a whole whack of PCI-e x1 and x4's which are total useless. We cant swap out the motherboard to get more PCI slots. Thats why i was looking for something like this so i can plug in more PCI slots. I'm doing some robotics control and i need 2 PCI slots for motor controler boards. If you try to insert a card without a 3.3V slot into an AGP 3.3V motherboard connector, the card will bump into the connector key and cannot be inserted. AGP cards with the 1.5V slot. An AGP universal motherboard connector has no keys and therefore can accept any kind of AGP card. An AGP card with both voltage slots can be plugged into any kind of AGP motherboard connector. If you can plug an AGP card into an AGP motherboard connector, then they are compatible. Most PCI video cards are also 32 bits and 5 volts. Many of the PCI video cards also support 3.3 volts. As a result, most PCI video cards work fine in most PCs. However, there are some motherboards out there with other kinds of PCI slots. If you want to use one of those then you'll need a PCI video card which supports 3.3 volts. So, before purchasing a PCI video card it's a good idea to make sure that the PCI video card and motherboard are compatible. If the PCI video card fits into the motherboard expansion connector then they're compatible. PCIe, data is transferred over two signal pairs: two wires for transmitting and two wires for receiving. PCI Express controller (available inside the CPU or inside the motherboard chipset, depending on your system) have to be of the same revision. If you have a PCI Express 2.0 video card and install it on a system with a PCI Express 3.0 controller, you will be limited to the PCI Express 2.0 bandwidth.
