Description

I do not recommend starting with number 1 again for each scene – this creates too much potential for confusion. You need to know how many shots you have before deciding which shots to do which days. Plus, because everyone else will be receiving instructions from the Director, not from a piece of paper. Director, you need to be aware of this when you shoot those two shots, everyone has their own preferred way to do things. Rainer said, so they can best manage the set during principal photography. I've attached an example from a recent shoot of a filled out shot list in shot order. I generally like to have a separate shot list for each day of shooting. Mercifully the director and producer decided they didn't need 5 of the shots. Sylvia's monologue (shots 8N and 8O) was a pretty long monologue that the director wanted to get in one continuous take. Luckily the actors were pretty on and by this time they were able to do most of the shots in one or two takes. Make sure your cinematographer is part of the process. A shot list is a very important document that you both have to agree before filming. For example, there’s the whole logistics thing. If that is the case, AD and Line Producers need to know what’s exterior vs. interior or wide shot vs. close-up, to ensure that the action in the two shots matches well enough to be cut smoothly.
