Poker Probabilities

5 card stud poker statistics

Description

Straights and flushes are not enforced in the low hand. For the low hand aces always count as low. Here are the probabilities for each hand.I've been asked several times about the probabilities of each poker hand in multiple-deck games. Although I strongly feel poker based games should be played with only one deck, I will submit to the will of my readers and present the following tables. For the purpose of this table, a royal flush, straight flush, flush, and straight must use all cards. Many factors come into play such as: The more people at the table, the greater the chance that one or more will be dealt a pair. Less people at the table, there is a greater chance of getting a hand of higher value. The dealer will then give all players a third card, which is dealt face up. Another betting round follows. The final card dealt (fifth street) signifies the beginning of the last round of betting. For example, if you have a seven and an eight, you should play on if none of your opponents have an upcard greater than six. Similarly, you should play on if you have a high downcard and none of your opponents have an upcard that is higher than this downcard. Stud is the most popular. This is due to the high stakes that are involved as well as the technique. Unlike Holdem and Omaha there are many cards for players to consider on the table. Furthermore, all antes that are paid are not recognized as part of any bets that occur during the hand.A term used for the various betting stages that occur throughout the hand as players receive their cards. This rule is typically used only in home-games as it only benefits the weaker players. Each player has the opportunity to replace (called the draw) his cards to improve his hand. They may discard any number of their cards in exchange for new ones, although some variations limit the draw to a maximum of three cards. A player may also opt to keep their original cards if they prefer. When someone opens each player has the opportunity to fold, call or raise and does not need to have openers to participate. If you have no need to disguise your hand then you should draw the maximum number of cards to enhance your odds of improvement. If you desire to disguise your holding for strategic purposes, you may draw a different number of cards. As an example, if you hold three of a kind, instead of drawing two cards you might draw one. Your hand now looks as if you have two pair or a four card draw to a straight or flush. The game can become one of much dealing coupled with infrequent confrontations involving significant pots, hence the main reason it has lost favor to more exciting forms of poker. I play fixed, pot and no limit at various stakes up to and including $10/$20.I learned early on that most players playing draw were recreational players not pros and with very little educational content on the game this was not going to change. This meant that a knowledgeable player would have a distinct advantage at the tables. I started at low limits with a $200 bankroll and only had to re-deposit once during my learning curve.I can teach you how to beat low fixed limit draw games. By that I mean fixed limit up to and including $1/$2.I can also teach you what it will take to go higher than that. What I cannot do is make you follow my advice. How you play depends on what you know about the player in the big blind. Lacking that information, limp with A-Q to a pair of sixes. This is one of the few times that you can limp. Open-raise with anything better. This means, come in for a raise with sevens or better. If the big blind raises, call and draw three cards straightforwardly. If two or more players limp in, raise with a pair of kings or anything better. I cannot stress enough the importance of note taking. Draw players are creatures of habit. If a player draws one card or two to trips, it should be in your notes. This is not hold’em. There is no "board" to help you evaluate a hand; only your notes.
