Blackjack Continuous Shuffling Machine

Description

Six years later many of the casinos around the World have adopted the Continuous Shuffling Machines for use in their blackjack pits much to the displeasure of many players and dealers alike. While the casino executives probably hail the use of Continuous Shuffling Machines as the best thing since the "eye in the sky", most players and dealers do not share their enthusiasm. I spoke with several dealers and was told the consensus among them is a strong dislike for the automatic shuffler. Shuffling gives them a welcome physical and mental break from the game. While shuffling they can talk and interact with the players. Even a multi deck shoe game is preferable to the Continuous Shuffling Machines. The best way you can let the casinos know this is by refusing to play Blackjack at the casinos that use a CSM for their Blackjack games. If you are using basic strategy, then the shufflers actually lower the house edge slightly, due to the omission of the cut card effect. It is my understanding that they do provide an honest random shuffle. However, the shuffling machine allows the dealer to waste less time shuffling and spend more time dealing. As far as I know, they actually shuffle after every hand, but for reasons I do not understand, only indicate a shuffle occasionally. Enjoy your site. Thanks.I know that one software company randomly picks two cards in the deck and reverses them, and repeats this numerous times. Since learning of this technique, that is also how I shuffle in my random simulation programs. CSM (Continuous Shuffler Machine) at the blackjack table does not shuffle ALL of the cards at the end of each hand. There are a few cards left in the shoe part of the machine (anywhere from 1 to 20 or so) that are not shuffled. The CSM I saw used four decks so, on a full table, there are actually quite a few cards played each hand and you could potentially get a true value of plus/minus one if you made the simplifying assumption that none of those would repeat. When converting to the true count you will rarely get anything far from +/-1. If you’re any kind of counter at all I would forget about playing against a CSM, it isn’t worth the bother. However, one that you may not have immediately considered is the different types of shuffling. It may not seem like a big deal, but the way in which the cards are shuffled can have an effect on the house advantage and, in turn, the players’ odds of winning. When using this device, the dealer does not have to pause to shuffle decks between rounds. CSMs randomize the cards and allow games to play out more quickly because the dealer does not waste time shuffling cards. As the elevator moves up and down, the shuffler randomly inserts cards into one of the shelves in the device. The machine then randomly selects a shelf to put into the dealing shoe. The process is completely random, which means that every discard inserted into the continuous shuffling machine has a chance of appearing in the next round. The effect of a CSM on the odds of the game depends on how many decks are being used. In a typical six-deck blackjack game, the house edge is reduced by approximately 0.1 percent. Because the dealer does not have to waste time shuffling, CSMs are able to speed up blackjack games by approximately 20 percent. This is a form of card counting by which players monitor and predict which clumps of cards are likely to be bunched together. For more information, read our guide to basic blackjack strategy. Las Vegas casinos are bringing back those good ole single deck blackjack games. But in a 6 to 5 blackjack game, your blackjack will get you $6, a buck and a half less. And you’ll get short-changed on your blackjacks about once in every 21 hands or about 4 times every hour on average. But don’t confuse a CSM with an automatic shuffler, which has been around for awhile. There is only a single stack of 4 or 5 decks of cards in the CSM. After every round or two the discards are placed back into the CSM where they are “randomly mixed” with the other cards. The only one profiting from that that device is the company that manufactured it and the casinos for not telling you it’s worthless. Tamburin's most popular book on blackjack contains three levels of playing strategies. For the beginner, a non-counting strategy that will give you a slight edge in some blackjack games. The intermediate level strategy contains an introduction to card counting. The advanced level playing strategy is a powerful system that will give the blackjack player up to a 1.5% edge over the casinos. USA Casino Blackjack is the best bet for practicing blackjack basic strategy without stress and distractions. The game comes in both free play and real money modes and you can play up to three hands on your own table. The rules are favorable and with a house edge of only 0.71%, better than many casinos. If the casino were using 6 decks of cards, they will usually deal 4.0-4.5 decks and then place the entire 6-decks into the automatic shuffler for shuffling while continue to play with the second set of freshly shuffled 6-decks of cards. With an automatic shuffler, about 70-75% of the cards are dealt out before the cards are reshuffled. CSM. After a betting round is completed, the dealer will scoop up the just played cards (discards) and instead of placing them into a discard tray will insert the cards back into the CSM for shuffling with the remaining 4.5 or so decks of cards. Even though the house edge goes down slightly with a CSM, this is more than negated by the increased speed of the game. Remember with a CSM dealt game there is never any down for shuffling cards. Casinos coast to coast have been testing them for the past several years. In some casinos the devices were removed because of player complaints or because the extra revenue didn’t justify the extra cost of these devices. Blackjack is tough enough to beat without introducing devices that cause average player’s to lose more quickly.
