After expressing our disappointment in our location we were upgraded to the Select section, in the middle of the resort and not far from the shuttle service and about a ten minute walk to the beach. Our third floor room was clean, nicely decorated with two queen beds, plazma TV, bath and shower, and a balcony. Our maid was friendly and spoke a little English. We tipped her a little every day and she kept us supplied with bottled water and toilet paper (no kleenex).I don't know why they don't have contoured sheets at these resorts. I think a second visit at this resort will be more enjoyable since it takes quite a while to get your bearings and find where you want to go and how to get there. Even in the two buffets. There is nothing more you could ask for. The desserts are extra special. Especially the Zodiak show. Costumes, dances, and pantomine singers put on quite a spectacle. The sand is fluffy and white, packed down just enough to make walking a pleasure. Some saved their chairs by putting a sandle on each one, or a book, or a coconut. Room clean and well maintained but not enough drawer storage. Maid service excellent. Food really good in all restaurants except Jade. Food in buffet regularly temperature tested 5* - fantastic choice. Fabulous walks around the large bay but hotel beach space too small and cramped. I had a fantastic stay at the Royalton, we celebrated our 21st wedding anniversary and wouldn't change a thing. We stayed in building 2 an the service of the concierge was excellent. There were a select few of really good bartenders & servers (3) - they were outstanding in their service. I must admit that I would not return here. I am married to a teacher and we have to travel during the march break. The staff was very polite and provided assistance when required. The food was fine, the al a carts are definitely an upgrade from the buffet for dinners and there is really not variety in the food for other meals. Hotel room near the tennis courts had the odor of the swamp and a quick discussion with the front desk ($’s) and we moved to main complex by the pool & beach. This room needed work, the ceiling in the bathroom leaked when the air conditioner was on, the shower needed repairs while we were there. House cleaning staff was very pleasant and did a great job in cleaning and preparing our room. The real interesting item to be noted is that all of drinks were alcohol free unless we requested rum (or other) to be included. This hotel is not 5 star but the staff (front desk, animation, buffet, a la carte) made it top-notch allowing it to rise above a few others I have stayed at. I requested a room close to the beach since I was recovering from a back injury. At check-in we learned that we were given a room in the newer section of the resort, farthest from the beach. I was disappointed in the lack of attention paid to visual presentation in the rooms to welcome the guests, i.e., towel displays, but like I said in the summary, not much in the resort was fancy. The newer buffet and pool were quite attractive. There was a tram that ran 24 hours a day but did not go all the way to the beach. Seatings at the a la cartes were difficult to reserve and many seemed to be closed (for renovation). We did go to the Asian restaurant for $10 extra and it was excellent, well-worth it. The beach was gorgeous, always clean with many chairs available. The shows were fun. All in all it was a good trip. I am not sure if we would return since I like something a little more upscale but it is our understanding that Grand Paradise was recently purchased by SunWing and will be undergoing a major renovation.
