MIni Cooper - Sport Version

slot cars mini cooper

Description

When BMW first showed off it's version of the Mini, it seemed this was the next logical progression in a long history of beloved automobiles. When Scalextric announced it's coming release of the BMW Mini it was already on the heals of Ninco which released it's Mini many months earlier. Scalextric's new car had to be something special no not be "just another Mini".Packaged in the standard Sport flip-top box, the Mini is dwarfed by the packaging. These are very realistic, and include a brake rotor as well. The tires are smallish in size, very scale for this car. There is a lot of work that has gone into the outward appearance of this car that the average person may not appreciate. There is a lot of masking that had to be done, as well as many colors of tampo printing and hand painting. The seats are two-tone and look very realistic. The driver, though still with big head, looks right at home in this car in his red racing suit. The most impressive part of the interior is the dash, with detailed, scale looking white faced gauges. Sport Editions. Limited is a relative term, however, considering this car is limited to 10,000 units. There shouldn't be a shortage to this U.S. exclusive for some time. Also on the bottom you can see the two bar magnet locations, one just forward of the motor, the other just forward of amidships. Mini, you'll probably love this slot car. The detail is outstanding, and it drives very well considering it's dimensions. It's not the best slider I've ever driven, but as a magnet car it offers a challenge and excitement. We do not charge any order until we have picked, inspected the product and processed the order ready for packing. I race 1/18 scale radio controlled cars. My local track is Indy Slots. We run upstairs and to get up to the track I have to pass both a HO and 1/32 scale track. At least that is what I told my self. Then I saw the cabinet full of 1/32 scale cars and the go karts. My wife and I rented both the original Italian Job and the remake. We both expressed interest in the Scaly Mini Coopers. She liked the red Cooper S that was featured in the remake. Good thing there are two local slot car tracks for us to race each other on, as we don’t have space in our apartment for a home track. Scaly even took the time to duplicate the dual exhaust that is featured on the S version of the full scale Mini. We also liked the “Cooper S” wheels that help do differentiate the car from its “lesser” brethren. This means that the rubber windshield wipers are on the wrong side wiping in the wrong direction. The full figure driver has a race suit and the Scaly big head helmet, again another deviation from the movie. This was a surprise to me as you can not see his feet when the car is assembled. It must have been a cost saving maneuver by Scaly rather than re-cast the interior. These are easy to remove although there is a little fiddling to get the front headlights to clear the body. Once it is removed we discover the Scaly side winder configuration. I am a little concerned about closeness of the motor’s shaft to the left rear fender. There are other reports of the performance of the Scalextric Mini Cooper, and I would doubt that the cosmetic changes will affect performance. I am looking forward to the challenge of driving by throttle only. And we hope that it will be a great time for our three year-old helping when the cars do come out of the slots.I would like to make some modifications in the future. Besides truing the tires, I would like to find some kind of capacitor that will charge quickly and supply a reserve of power to keep the lights glowing brightly when you let off the throttle. Another thing I would love to change would be to find a true White “High Intensity Discharge” bulb for the headlights. The yellowish lights that come with the car are better than no lights what so ever. I also like the fact that Scaly was thoughtful to throw in two additional guides complete with braid.
