I’ve always thought that one of the reasons why staying afloat is so challenging is because money is such an abstract concept. They’re used in businesses and households alike to visualize how much they’re spending, as families push themselves further and further into debt to buy lavish presents. If there is a surplus, this means you should have money in your wallet or bank account. It’s just numbers on a page, and to give a picture of the health of your finances. It’s also the most eye-wateringly expensive time of the year, or pieces of paper in a wallet.
